There's definitely something in the water over at the May Street Larder establishment in East Freemantle, WA, Australia. A buzz over 'thoughtful dining', locally sourced organic produce, seasonal ingredients, a suggestion to wash it down with a Kombucha or a home-made soda perhaps?
What is a 'larder'? Sounds like old Victorian english that never made it to Australia during the British colonisation. A wall decal in the corner reveals it to us, reminiscent of a dictionary look up during an english lesson "large cupboard or pantry for storing food; a supply of food". It makes their name all the more memorable.
Nostalgic touches are in play; rustic rainbow wooden bench, upcycled fleur de lis tiles, bric-a-brac polished stools. We can agree that it feels tailored, customised and unique. Their identity is strong and present upon first impression.
No doubt their philosophy would translate to their dishes and produce. In fact, you'll find an abundance of satisfied customer regrams over on instagram when you search #maystreetlarder
Well played.
